Jax Entrepreneurship and Small Business Summit

by Blog Hub on 03/12/12

Last month we were invited by the Indo-US Chamber of Commerce of NE Florida to attend the "Jacksonville Entrepreneurship and Small Business Summit".

Its purpose was to pose questions to top federal leaders about policies and programs to support aspiring entrepreneurs and start-up’s, resources for small businesses wanting to go global, and included a discussion on innovation opportunities and Healthcare Information Technology.

The key note speaker was Christopher Lu, Assistant to President Obama and Cabinet Secretary.

Mr. Lu's speech titled
"An America Built to Last", addressed economic security of the middle class, private sector job growth, and President Obama’s blueprint for an economy that’s built to last – an economy built on American manufacturing, energy, skills for American workers, and a renewal of American values.

The panel of speakers included,

  • Nish Acharya, Director of the Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, U.S. Department of Commerce
  • Jorge Arce, Director, U.S. Commercial Service-Jacksonville, U.S. Department of Commerce
  • Wil Yu, Special Assistant of Innovations and Research, U.S Department of Health and Human Services
  • Susan Amat, Startup Florida Chair and Executive Director of Miami LaunchPad

We walked away from the summit with a new profound understanding of the White House's initiatives for AAPI
(Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders) businesses, gained further resource tools for expansion, and learned the benefits of diversifying businesses through exporting.

Our COO, Andre Williams, poses with Assistant and Cabinet Secretary, Chris Lu.

LDI would like to thank the Indo-Chamber of Commerce for extending such a welcoming invitation to help further advance economic and entrepreneurial development.

Mayor Brown's Business Builder

by Blog Hub on 03/06/12

Last month we were invited to attend Mayor Brown's Business Builder at the Prime Osborn III Convention Center in the City of Jacksonville. The inaugural event's purpose was to help strengthen entrepreneurship within the Jax community.

The program provided small business owners with a deeper understanding of what it takes to succeed and connected entrepreneurs to resources for capital and credit through match making sessions.

We got to listen to speeches from U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator Karen G. Mills and Tom and Sue Bennett; as well as, the board chairman and senior vice president of First Oklahoma Bank. See pics below:

As a member of the N.C.M.A. (National Contract Management Association) Jacksonville Chapter, we got the opportunity to attend a Social Media Workshop last month lead by Chrissy Begemann. We learned a number of new tools to assist us in the utilization of social media outlets such as Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Instagram and more. Stay tuned as we work our new strategies into serving you for the better!

Host, Chrissy Begemann

NCMA President, Dawn Brown (speaker), Bill Swan, Nicole Wilhelm, Linda Hosey and our very own Ashley McQuaide and Andre Williams (far back) were among those attending.
